The amount of the investment was not disclosed.
Vertilite was founded in 2015 and is headquartered in Changzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China. The company makes VCSELs that generate light at wavelengths from 650nm to 1000nm for applications from high-speed optical communication to optical sensing in biomedical, industrial, automotive and consumer products.
In July 2019 the company announced it had closed a series B round of funding at 108 million CNY (about US$15.2 million) in September 2018. That funding was intended to accelerate Vertlilite’s mass production of VCSELs for mobile applications.
VCSELs can be used in a lidar/depth sensor within a smartphone. In November 2017 introduced a smartphone with three VCSELs to unlock the phone using its FaceID feature. It is thought that Huawei may be investing in Vertilite to ensure a domestic supply of such components.
