Hyundai Mobis integrates head-up display, instrument cluster
Hyundai Mobis’ Clusterless HUD is a next-generation cockpit technology: to minimise driver distraction, the different types of information for the driver that would otherwise be displayed in the instrument cluster are distributed between the HUD in front of the driver and the AVNT (Audio, Video, Navigation and Telematics) display.
The Clusterless HUD, with its 15″ display, is different in that it shows the information the driver always needs, such as speed and revs, at eye level. Apart from the improved display of classic driving assistance functions in the HUD, such as navigation, this approach offers more safety and comfort for the driver, according to the manufacturer.
The HUD is divided into a total of four display areas, three of which are at the top and one at the bottom. The upper display areas show speed, RPM, ADAS information and navigation information. The lower display area shows basic vehicle information such as shift mode, coolant temperature and remaining range. Turn signals, system information warning lights, etc. can also be displayed.
To ensure the production capability of the display, Hyundai Mobis has developed a special manufacturing technology for the combiner mirror that enables the functions of the HUD-through the optical glass on the side of the dashboard.
With the “Clusterless HUD”, Hyundai Mobis has in particular the developers of electric vehicles in mind. This is because, according to the automotive supplier’s observations, many car manufacturers are currently rethinking the design of the interior with the switch to electric vehicles and are using platforms used exclusively for electric vehicles. It is expected that the weight reduction will also help to increase the range.
For its “Clusterless HUD”, Hyundai Mobis has applied for patents in major car countries, including the USA, China and Germany as well as Korea. In this way, Hyundai Mobis aims to be the leader in cockpit technology of the future and try to win international orders through aggressive promotion to domestic and foreign car brands.
