I/O controllers for X86-based industrial and embedded computing
These flexible I/O controllers are optimised, Microchip says, for industrial and embedded computing designs, in smaller packages and with long product lifecycles: they are available in both commercial and industrial operating temperature versions.
Each product in the SCH322X Super I/O family contains a different feature set, combining serial ports, parallel port, and PS/2 with flexible General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO) capability and fully-specified temperature and voltage monitoring, which enables the design of more cost-effective industrial applications. This SCH322X product family comes in area-efficient BGA packages.

Designed to operate with the x86 architecture, the SCH322X family comprises six devices with varying numbers of serial ports, combined with hardware monitoring, and with and without keyboard controller functionality; SCH3221, SCH3222, SCH3223, SCH3224, SCH3226 and SCH3227. Numbers of GPIOs across the family ranges from 19 to 40; and all device except SCH3221 have a 32-byte security key register. Supporting legacy PC functions within an industrial environment, the SCH3227 (as an example) is a 3.3V Super I/O Controller with an LPC interface. The SCH3227 includes keyboard controller, hardware monitoring capabilities, power control logic, and motherboard glue logic. The device provides a parallel port, 4 full serial ports and the option for two additional 4-Pin serial ports. The serial ports are fully functional NS16550 compatible UARTs that support data rates up to 1.5 Mbps.
The six-member SCH322X Super I/O family is available in 64-WFBGA (6 x 6 mm), 84-WFBGA (7 x 7 mm), 100-WFBGA (8 x 8 mm), and 144-WFBGA (9 x 9 mm) packages starting at $1.50 (10,000).
