The tool suite will enable automotive system developers to model, simulate and validate the real-time behavior of motor control components and systems. This cuts development times and costs by up to two thirds, the companies said. At the same time the quality of the finished products is ensured while expensive warranty claims or even product recalls are avoided.

According to IBM, two automotive suppliers are already using the tool suite. Hella KgaA Hueck & Co uses the software to develop electric systems and electronic control units. In addition, Hella analyses the power behavior of these systems over time. Automotive tier one Continental AG uses the software as a platform to model and test various design approaches during the development.

The IBM / Inchron tool enables Continental’s developers to virtually integrate the hardware modeled by the tool a long time before the real system is finalized. The IBM / Inchron tool platform consists of IBM’s Rational Rhapsody graphical development tool and Inchron’s eponymous tool suite.

By integrating Inchron’s solutions with the IBM Rational software development platform, Inchron and IBM can offer customers a comprehensive tool suite for the development of embedded systems. The greatest improvements are with regards to model-based development where timing and performance considerations can now be taken into account at a much earlier stage of the development process.
