IDT grabs wireless charging slot in Samsung Galaxy devices
The Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note5 smartphones, wireless charger, and Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch charging pad – Samsung has revealed – are using IDT technology, comprising the semiconductor content and associated software required for mobile devices charging without a wired connection. IDT also cooperated with Samsung for the Galaxy S6 wireless charger.
The latest IDT ICs used in Samsung products are programmable with built-in microprocessor cores, supporting Samsung’s customisation of its own unique features such as fast charge, first on Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note5, coupled with Samsung’s wireless charger. This feature enables users to charge the Galaxy S6 edge+ or Galaxy Note5 device up to about 1.5x faster than legacy wireless charging solutions.
IDT has recently introduced wireless power kits that enable electronics companies of any size to integrate wireless charging capabilities into their product design, citing as an example, the compact Samsung Gear S2 charging pad.
IDT supports both magnetic induction and magnetic resonance technologies, and actively participates in the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC), Power Matters Alliance (PMA), and Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP) as a board member. IDT has introduced a number of products, claiming the first true single-chip transmitter, and the highest-output-power single chip receiver.
