Industrializing roll-to-roll OLED manufacture
Developed in collaboration with Professor Kwon Shin of the Korea Institute of Machinery & Materials’ Printed Electronics Laboratory, the new roll-to-roll system feeds the flexible substrates through multiple sources of deposition for the layering organic and inorganic materials, patterned using an automated mask alignment in real-time.
The new system is able to deposit the OLED active layers across substrates up to 300mm wide, advantageously replacing cluster-type production processes which throughput would lag behind the new equipment, according to the company’s CEO Lee Moon-yong.
Roll-to-roll OLED deposition is a hot topic in Europe, with several labs and research institutes demonstrating their capabilities, but GJM hopes its deposition system could industrialize the process, ramping up production while decreasing overall flexible OLED manufacturing costs.
