Industry’s first flip-type MLCCs in 0510 form factor for automotive applications
In contrast to conventional MLCCs, the terminals of the electrodes of the flip-type capacitors are rotated by 90°. This results in a wider and at the same time shorter current path, which leads to lower ESL and ESR values and thus to lower impedances. Flip-Type MLCCs have already proven themselves in a number of applications.
These capacitors are mainly used for noise suppression and decoupling of supply lines for automotive control units (ECUs). Thanks to the high efficiency of the new capacitors, the number of MLCCs required can be reduced.
ADAS applications are becoming more and more important for increasing safety. At the same time, there are more and more functionalities that support autonomous driving. This requires computing power equivalent to that of PCs or smartphones. The ICs used for this purpose therefore offer more and more functions, which means that more and more decoupling MLCCs are required for noise suppression. At the same time, more compact, space-saving designs are required, increasing the need for highly efficient noise reduction components.
Volume production started in January 2020. The company intends to offer higher capacitance types in the future to expand the product range and serve more automotive applications.
