Infineon Technologies and Thistle Technologies are joining forces to bring stronger protection to Secure Edge AI applications. By integrating Infineon’s OPTIGA™ Trust M into the Thistle Security Platform for Devices, the companies aim to safeguard AI models and the sensitive data they rely on with hardware-backed cryptography.
For eeNews Europe readers, this move highlights a new way to safeguard intellectual property in AI applications and secure training datasets in embedded devices—a challenge increasingly faced by OEMs deploying machine learning at the edge.
Hardware-anchored protection for AI
Thistle’s updated Security Platform for Devices integrates Infineon’s OPTIGA™ Trust M as a hardware-based root of trust. This combination provides ready-made, cloud-managed security components for Linux-based systems and microcontroller-driven products. Instead of building custom stacks, OEMs can deploy proven security foundations within hours and scale them across fleets.
The OPTIGA™ Trust M security controller enables tamper-resistant key storage, secured provisioning, and cryptographic operations such as encryption and decryption. Devices authenticate and deploy only trusted AI models.

Key features of the Secure Edge AI solution include:
- Hardware-backed model encryption: Each device stores a unique AES 256-bit key in OPTIGA™ Trust M. This keeps model encryption keys inside the secure element. Even disassembled or decommissioned devices cannot expose manufacturer IP.
- Secured model provenance: Over-the-air updates are cryptographically signed and traceable back to the training platform, offering tamper-evident delivery.
- Signed data and lineage: Devices can sign collected data and tag it with provenance metadata. Downstream systems can then verify both the data integrity and the model version.
Industry voices and availability
