The report highlights the market drivers for power devices from electrification in industry, mobility and private consumption, as well as the rising number of consumer applications increasing the demand for more efficient power semiconductors.

In the overall market, which also includes power ICs, Infineon remained the largest supplier and achieved the biggest organic growth across the industry. In discretes and modules, Infineon has been confirmed number one for the fifteenth time in a row, increased its market share and is now more than double the size of the company in second place. For discrete IGBTs, Infineon is now more than three times the size of the next smaller competitor.

With 39 percent growth, the company is growing faster than the $42.4bn market in 2017 of 20.1 percent.

The discretes and modules market is worth $18.5bn, growing at 13 perecnt, the highest growth since 2010. Infineon has a market share 18.6 percent. This compares to the market for MOSFETs of $6.7bn and IGBTs of $1.1bn, although the IGBT module market is twice the size at $2.2bn. Infineon dominates all these markets.

The intelligent power module market has overtaken IGBTs, at $1.6bn with a growth of 20.1 percent, but here Infineon is the number three player with a market share of 10.3 percent.
