
Founded in 2010 by Hans Hasselby-Andersen and Mikkel Hoyerby, Merus Audio designs energy-efficient integrated audio amplifier solutions, which can enhance audio performance, while generating less heat and minimising energy use and design space. Infineon has bought the company to provide customers with a range of Class-D Audio amplifier choices for exacting applications. Merus Audio’s technology will complement Infineon’s PowIRAudio sub-70 Watt product line.
There is a growing demand for small, battery-powered speakers with excellent quality sound reproduction. Analyst SAR Insight estimates that by 2022, revenue in the smart speaker market could be grow annually by 55 percent (CAGR 2017-22). The Merus Audio solution is based on cascading converter technology, which reduces THD and noise.
The start-up will be integrated into Infineon’s Power Management & Multimarket Division. Financial details were not disclosed.
