In a year-on-year comparison, Infineon’s quarterly sales grew by 10% to € 1.77 billion. In the same period, the gross margin climbed from 36.6% to 38%. In the market for automotive electronics that is already characterized by strong growth, Infineon succeeded in increasing its market share – from 10.4 % to 10.7 %, according to market researcher Strategy Analytics. Thus, the Munich-based semiconductor vendor cemented its position as number two in the automotive chip market. The growth has been realized true across all automotive-related product groups, from power semiconductors to sensors and microcontrollers.

In the power segment, Infineon reports about positive response to its first pre-series high-voltage silicon carbide MOSFET. The company provided samples of this component to first customers – which in return placed first firm orders. SiC MOSFETs are said to be a key element for further increase in switching efficiency for motor drives and voltage converters / inverters. Infineon plans to introduce the 1200V SiC MOSFET “soon”; first revenues are expected during the current fiscal year which ends in September.

For the remainder of the year, the chipmaker confirmed its overall revenue target with a growth of 8 to 11 %. Again, the growth in the automotive segment will be above average, Infineon said.
