Innolux to boost Sharp’s OLED production take-off

Digitimes reports that Innolux honorary chairmen Tuan Hsing-chien stepped down as Innolux chairman in June 2016 and was appointed a consultant for the Foxconn Group specifically to promote reform of Sharp’s panel business, especially cost reductions (Foxconn is the majority shareholder of Sharp since March 2016).

Tuan sees Innolux and Sharp as complementary in terms of technology, production capacity and factory management, for panel production in particular.

While Sharp has a simple OLED panel production line, Innolux has an OLED experimental line with better equipment. So Sharp’s and Innolux’s R&D engineers are joining their forces on OLED experiments based on Innolux’s experimental line before Sharp’s 4.5G OLED factory is completed. According to the same source, Innolux is to send about 10 engineers to Sharp’s factory.

Innolux and Sharp may also cooperate on IGZO TFT-LCD panels, Tuan said, whereby Innolux could provide some of its IGZO TFT-LCD production capacity for use by Sharp.
