Innovasic adds ‘real-time’ channel to Ethernet
Ethernet is becoming increasingly popular for factory automation, industrial and other networking applications despite the fact that the original protocol is inherently non-deterministic.
As the application of Industrial Ethernet grows, conventional solutions are have difficulty dealing with critical messages when network traffic increases, resulting in unpredictable packet delays, excessive latency, and even connection failure, said Innovasic (Albuquerque, New Mexico).
In laboratory tests Ethernet transceivers that include PriorityChannel were able to respond within 160-microseconds regardless of amount or type of other network traffic.
PriorityChannel technology is a combination of silicon and software that has been optimized for Industrial Ethernet applications. Innovasic currently offers this technology for EtherNet/IP and Profinet Class B.
The offering is based on the Fido1100 communications controller IC which is compatible with the Motorola 68000 instruction set.
