Highlighting the importance of motor drives in Europe, the first device in Infineon’s XMC family of microcontrollers based around the ARM Cortex M4 is aimed directly at this area. The DAVE environment encapsulates the expertise of motor drive system developers to boost design efficiency, says Stephan Zizala, senior director of microcontrollers for industrial at Infineon. This is combined with a flexible peripheral structure that can take ‘slices’ of the underlying resources – timer or data converters- to match the performance requirements and peripherals deliberately targeted at motor drives to create specific pulse width modulators (PWM) blocks.
