STMicroelectronics has launched the first common-mode filters on the market with automotive qualification and guaranteed compliance with automotive overvoltage specifications. In addition to being produced and qualified to AEC-Q101, they are also designed and tested in accordance with automotive overvoltage specifications such as ISO 10605.

The filters replace discrete common mode chokes or LTCC (Low Temperature Cofired Ceramic) components, which are typically larger and do not provide ESD protection. They play an essential role in the reliable functioning of driver assistance systems and are therefore used on fast data lines for camera, radar, display, multimedia and other connections to avoid interference from wireless communication equipment. With a footprint of 3.5 mm² and an overall height of 0.75 mm, the components save PCB space, not to mention the simplified design and reduced material costs.

The ECMF04-4HSM10Y with a differential bandwidth of 2.2 GHz is designed to suppress common mode interference on HDMI 1.4, MIPI connections. The effective attenuation, which achieves -25 dB at 900 MHz and -14 dB at 1.4 GHz, prevents radiated interference from affecting the sensitivity of mobile radio and GPS antennas.

The higher bandwidth of 3.5 GHz extends the application range of the ECMF04-4HSWM10Y to LVDS, DisplayPort, USB 3.1 and HDMI 2.0. With an attenuation of -30 dB at 2.4 GHz and -16 dB at 5.0 GHz, the ECMF04-4HSWM10Y protects Bluetooth equipment and V2x (Vehicle-to-Everything) Wi-Fi antennas as well as cellular and GPS systems.
