Intel among robotic vision startup investors
AEye Inc., founded in February 2013, is developing a vision system that merges solid-state Lidar with optical vision and analyses it with artificial intelligence and customized software. The system scans a scene and by having a visual cortex behind the optical sensing of the vehicle that digests information quickly, reliability is improved, the company said.
AEye’s solid-state system, which uses a 1550 nanometer retina-safe laser, reduces bandwidth, latency and power consumption, the company said and is expected to have benefits in autonomous vehicles and robots.
AEye said it will use its series A funding to commercialize its robotic vision system. The company is currently in early testing with large transportation and heavy industry OEMs, with phased commercial rollouts planned throughout 2017 and 2018.
“Quick, accurate, intelligent interpretation of the environment that leverages and extends the human experience is the Holy Grail, and that’s exactly what AEye intends to deliver,” said Luis Dussan, CEO of AEye, in a statement.
Intel has also invested in Chronocam, which uses a novel asynchonrous image sensor for efficient optical image capture and use by machines.
