Four senior engineers from Intel’s Advanced Architecture Development Goup in Portland, Oregon, have left the company to form AheadComputing Inc. with plans to create RISC-V core IP.
The startup was founded in July 2024 and launched its website shortly before Intel announced plans to lay-off 15,000 people, about 15 percent of its workforce.
AheadComputing’s co-founders are:
- CEO Debbie Marr, who was an Intel Fellow and chief architect of the Advanced Architecture Development Group and gained 33 years’ experience with the company.
- Microprocessor architect Jonathan Pearce, who rose to the position of Principal Engineer and CPU Architect during 22 years at Intel.
- Architect Srikanth Srinivasan, who most recently led the frontend and backend CPU teams at the AADG.
- Microprocessor architect Mark Dechene, who was an Intel Principal Engineer and CPU Architect in the AADG, where he led the memory execution architecture team. Dechene spent 16 years at Intel.
AheadComputing’s founders have more than 80 years of experience designing microprocessors. The company has said it is exploring market opportunities, investor relationships, and technical feasibility. There is no indication of how the company is being, or will be, funded.
