A group of US asset managers is considering entering into deal with Intel Corp. to help it fund expansion at its wafer fab facility in Leixlip, Ireland, according to Bloomberg.

The firms are Apollo Global Management Inc, KKR & Co. and Stonepeak who could invest billions of dollars into a joint venture, Bloomberg said.

The possibility of a deal was disclosed back in February 2024 but at that time it was not clear Intel would find any takers. It was thought that Intel was looking for at least US$2 billion in equity funding (see Intel seeks capital to build next Irish wafer fab, says report).

Any deal constructed around the Leixlip plant would follow on the heels of a similar one put together by Intel and Brookfield Assett Management around fab construction in Arizona (see Intel unveils Brookfield semiconductor co-investment program). Intel and Brookfield agreed jointly invest up to US$30 billion at Intel’s Ocotillo campus in Chandler, Arizona, with Intel funding 51 percent and Brookfield funding 49 percent of the total project cost.

Intel already employs nearly 5,000 people at a wafer fab campus in Leixlip, Ireland, and also has expensive plans for twin fabs on a new site in Magdeburg, Germany and has fabs in Kiryat Gat, Israel.
