The memory market plunge is expected to drive Samsung’s 2019 semiconductor sales to a 20 percent annual fall, according to market research firm IC Insights. Intel is predicted to see flat sales in 2019 in an overall chip market that could fall by 7 percent.

As result IC Insights predicts $70.6 billion in annual sales for Intel and $63.1 billion in annual sales for Samsung and Intel reclaiming the top chip supplier ranking, which it held from 1993 to 2016. Samsung held the crown in 2017 and 2018 on the strength of the memory market.

Both DRAM and NAND flash markets are forecast to show big declines in 2019 and cause dips in sales at SK Hynix, Micron, and Toshiba Memory.  2019 chip sales at these four could be lower than they were in 2017, IC Insights said.
