Interactive see-through display targets augmented reality
The demonstration kit relies on COMEDD’s OLEDCam technology which integrates organic light emitting diodes with infrared photo detectors on a single CMOS backplane. The 640×480 pixel monochrome 10.2×7.7mm display used in the kit also features a nested 128×96 pixel IR camera that can track the eyes’ movements of the user as he or she looks at various elements of the information displayed.
An RGB OLED microdisplay with IR emitters (the invisible part) and IR photo detectors.
Combined with special software, the eye tracking can be used to scroll up and down, left and right, and in the future, mouse clicks could be emulated through the blink of an eye to activate links or pull-down menus.
Designed to superimpose information over the user’s real world view, such glasses can find applications in augmented reality, where the visual information can be deliberately or unconsciously adapted to the operational context, hands-free. Furthermore the system integrates an augmented-reality (AR) platform running on an XScale PXA 320 processor for small applications and an additional client computer for gaze-triggered AR applications. The Eval-Kit has two operation systems (OS). The AR platform is running an embedded Linux which is part of the evaluation kit. The client system depends on the customer system, and can be for example a Linux or Windows computer. In general the SDK and software running on this client is platform independent.
