
IoT Invention Kit lets anyone create connected devices in minutes
Offered on Kickstarter, the plug-and-play toolkit consists of 25 intelligent modules, including buttons, LEDs, air quality sensors, microphones, servos, and more. Designed to simplify the development of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, it allows users with no prior hardware or programming knowledge to piece together the modules to build connected gadgets.
The modules are connected using cables or by mounting them on the back of a Wi-Fi and motion hub. When done, the hub can be connected to a PC.
The ESLOV visual code editor automatically recognizes each module, displaying it on the screen. Users can then program their project by drawing the connections between the modules on the editor. The finished device can then be published to the Arduino Cloud and interacted with remotely.
The ESLOV kit is also ‘hackable’ with the Arduino IDE, allowing users to customize the behavior of the existing modules, enhance the hub functionalities, and modify the protocols of both the hub and the modules.
Sample applications include a baby monitor, a washing machine notifier, and a thermostat that can be adjusted remotely. ESLOV’s hardware and software are open source, allowing users to create their own modules.
The toolkit is offered in a variety of sizes, depending on the number of modules. Prices range from ~$55 USD to ~$499 USD, with multipacks and other opportunities available as well. Delivery is expected to get underway in June 2017.
