The company, which was spun out of Stanford University’s incubator program in 2014, says the funding will enable it to meet the demand for its IoT Guardian technology. IoT Guardian is offered as the industry’s only IoT security solution based on “device personalities.”

The software is described as leveraging machine learning to identify, classify, and profile individual device personalities; assess risk; and enforce trusted behaviors across an organization’s entire IoT footprint. With a “deep grasp of each IoT device’s personality,” it analyzes communication to and from every device, watching for deviations in behavior and providing alerts for suspicious behavior.

The Series B funding round was led by Dell Technologies Capital and Triventures. The latter specializes in investing in healthcare, with an emphasis on medical devices and digital health.

According to co-founder and managing partner Dr.Peter Fitzgerald, “[ZingBox] brings the right solution at the right time for healthcare organizations that need real-time visibility and cyber protection to optimize operations and provide uninterrupted, quality patient care. ZingBox’s deep and unique understanding of IoT and medical device behavior delivered in a seamless SaaS solution will be a gamechanger for its customers.”
