Isolated photovoltaic MOSFET driver features integrated turn-off capability in compact SOP-4 package
The VOM1271 features integrated turn-off circuitry, eliminating the need for external turn-off components and a secondary side power supply. The MOSFET driver greatly reduces implementation cost and PCB space usage, while increasing overall system reliability and performance.
The VOM1271 is optimized for high-side MOSFET drivers, isolated solenoid drivers, and custom solid-state relays (SSR) in end products including industrial and automatic test equipment systems. Previously, designers have been limited to low-power, off-the-shelf SSRs or bulky and expensive high-voltage ‘hockey puck’ modules for these applications. The VOM1271 allows mechanical SSRs to be replaced with more reliable MOSFET-based solutions requiring a minimum level of system complexity.
The new driver features an open circuit voltage up to 8.8 V typical, and a short-circuit current up to 47 µA typical. The higher open circuit voltage allows designers to choose from a wider range of MOSFETs; the higher short circuit current decreases the time required to charge the MOSFET’s gate. The combination of high open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current boosts the life, reliability, and switching speed of end products.
The VOM1271’s optical coupling provides a high isolation test voltage of 4500 VRMS. The isolation provided by the device fulfills the safety requirements mandated by domestic as well as international safety agencies, in addition to delivering an effective barrier to noise between sensitive control circuitry and output loads.
