Israeli smart image sensor startup raises funds
Infinity Capital led the Series A round, which brings Newsight’s total funding, including government grants, to $15 million. The company said it would use the money to develop products for automotive and machine vision applications.
Newsight makes line and area sensors with resolution up to about 640 by 400 pixels that can be used for distance sensing in a line and distance and such applications as facial recognition. The company uses CMOS to combine image sensor pixels, A-to-D conversion and digital processing monolithically along with time-of-flight distance calculations.
The company, founded in 2016, is addressing multiple applications including: automotive, robotics, barcode scanners. Newsight’s NSI3000 sensor is in use by several Chinese car manufacturers.
Newsight’s sensors have a frame-rate of up to 100,000 frames-per-second on a single line and an AI-ready multi-set feature. This enables the sensor to move from a range detection to machine vision picture from frame to frame, in-pixel accumulation, support of multi-triangulation and its embedded time-of-flight technology that allows acquisition of a full resolution depth imaging scene.
Newsight has also developed its spectrometer-on-chip solution, which captures 400-1100 nm wavelength spectral signatures and is the base for game changing solutions for water monitoring and for at-home immediate virus and remote health detection devices.
