Joint venture set up for grid current measurements
Two leading European measurement companies have set up a joint venture to boost the effectiveness of current sensing systems in modern electricity grids.
Senseleq has been set up by ELEQ and Danisense to develop advanced measurement systems for the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) environment as it moves from traditional electricity generation systems to hybrid and fully renewable technologies.

“The power utilities business is changing globally. Where once the main providers of electrical power were coal, gas, oil and nuclear power stations, today renewable sources of power, such as wind and solar are becoming significant. This is driving huge changes in all aspects of the electrical power industry, including new power quality and metering challenges that require a new current measurement approach,” said Loic Moreau, CEO of Senseleq which will be based in the Netherlands.
Dutch-based ELEQ has a 75-year history in electrical supply measurement while Danisense in Denmark pioneered zero-flux sensing current transformers that enable AC and DC currents to be measured simply with accuracies down to 1ppm.
Senseleq’s proprietary Fluxgate current sense technology will be used for measuring current harmonics up to 50 kHz in combination with professional power quality analyzers. These are suitable for non-invasive grid impedance measurements in HV grids and the current sense transducers can detect DC components and enable billing and protection with only one core, saving time and cost, and eliminating errors.
