Kyocera acquires Finnish MEMS resonator startup
No announcement could be found about the acquisition except at the Tikitin website which states: “Tikitin is now part of Kyocera. We are working on our web presence and we return with more information once we are ready. Stay tuned!”
Tikitin’s LinkedIn site also reflects a name change to Kyocera Tikitin Ltd. but no further information about the acquisition.
Tikitin was a June 2016 spin off from Finnish research institute VTT that raised €3 million (about $3.3 million) towards the end of 2017, to support the launch of MEMS resonator technology. Tikitin claimed to be the first company to introduce MEMS resonantors that can be driven by the same circuits as quartz crystal resonators thereby allowing pin-compatible replacement. The technology makes use of the piezoelectric properties of aluminum-nitride.
The team is seven people with experience in MEMS design, processing and business development.
Murata is another company that has acquired MEMS capability in Finland.
