Freescale claims the K50 family will put it in a leading position for the emerging portable medical application area.
The family comprises four members, which differ in their features including optional cryptography blocks and LCD drivers. All member feature dual OpAmps, dual TriAmps and a DAC in the analogue block, unique to the K50 family.
The Cortex-M4 core offers improved DSP instructions over the M3 core, favoured by other licensees in their high-end MCU families. All the Kinetis families are based on the M4, which offers compatibility across the range.
