LDRA supports ARM architecture in safety-critical automotive applications

ARM-based components are often found in ISO-26262-compliant automotive applications up to and including ASIL D and are gaining ground due to the growing importance of driver assistance systems and autonomous driving. In aircraft products, Intel and PowerPC have long been the preferred architectures for computers to achieve highly integrated computing solutions in this harsh environment of size, weight and power consumption limitations. However, the ARM architecture has since proven its reliability, low power consumption and versatility in automotive and aerospace applications, so that automotive and avionics developers are also turning to these processors. By extending object code verification to ARM-based chips, LDRA enables compliance with Level A, the highest safety requirements of the aerospace safety standard DO-178C. Automotive developers will also have the opportunity to achieve a similar level of reliability for the most demanding applications in their field.

LDRA’s accession to ARM’s Functional Safety Partnership Program has enabled the ARM community to gain functional safety capabilities and to accelerate the compliance efforts, especially in those application areas that require the application of functional safety and security standards. LDRA’s verification software supports numerous compilers and toolchains, including those from Green Hills Software, IAR, Wind River, Tasking and Keil.
