LED coolers boost efficiency performance from smaller diameters
Not only have mechanical changes been addressed but also the power and communication cable from the Xicato LED modules comes as a side feed.
“Lighting designers want to go smaller and more elegant,” explained Koen Vangorp, General Manager at MechaTronix, “and the passive LED coolers were still a kind of an obstruction to achieve this. We have been spending thousands of hours on investigating how to get more cooling out of smaller diameters. As a result today we get about 20% to 30% more efficiency out of our latest generation LED coolers, what immediately translates itself as smaller LED coolers for the same lumen outputs.”
MechaTronix has launched eight star shaped models for the Xicato XIM and XTM, all with the appearance of the ModuLED LED coolers.
The star LED coolers start at a diameter of 47 mm which is suitable for luminaire designs up to 1750 lumen, while the new diameter 70 mm LED star cooler can handle up to 2.500 lumen.
The Xicato pin fin cooler has a diameter of 47 mm and features a thermal resistance as low as 3.9°C/W. The improved efficiency enables a lighting designer to develop a 2000 lumen design in a diameter as small as an MR16 lamp.
