In December 2011, the European Commission published a Green Paper titled "Lighting the Future" which highlighted the huge ecologic and economic significance of LED lighting. The paper also points out that against the background of the competition from USA and Asia, Europe needs more initiatives to remain competitive.

In order to exploit the potential of LED lighting, it is necessary to intensify the exchange of scientific expertise and to discuss new, future-prone solution concepts. In order to achieve this exchange of ideas, it is also necessary to create a network that connects the key players from research and industry. It is the goal of 2nd the LED Professional Symposium (LpS 2012) in Bregenz (Austria) to establish itself as the central European meeting point for all stakeholders in LED Lighting technology. "With more than 50 exhibitors and over 750 registered attendees, the first LpS in 2011 has proven its significance as the leading LED lighting technology event in Europe", commented Siegfried Luger, initiator and manager of the event.

This year, the LpS will take place from September 25 through September 27. The venue ia the same as last year, the festival theatre in Bregenz. Experts from the lighting industry are invited to submit an abstract of their presentations by February 15 at latest.

The LpS 2012 offers an international technological and scientific platform for designers, manufacturers and users of LED components, modules and systems where they can exchange their experiences and expertise. Participants can expect a multifaceted program with numerous renowned presenters. A major highlight is the workshop on disruptive innovation technology, held by MIT professor Sergei Ikovenko. He already gave a much appreciated lecture on the same topic during last year’s LpS event.

An exposition highlighting the latest achievements in the various segments of the LED technology market will round off the symposium. The exhibits cover a broad range of technologies and products, ranging from measurement technologies on component, measurement and production technology to module and system manufacturers. In comparison to past year the exposition has expanded significantly.

Like in 2011, eeNews Europe will accompany the event as a media partner.

Abstracts of the presentations should be sent to symposium@led-professional.com. Topics and the selection process through the Advisory Board are detailed on www.lps2012.com
