Leoni CEO throws in the towel, resurfaces at ams Osram
The CEO of cable manufacturer Leoni, Aldo Kamper, has announced to leave the company at the end of the quarter (31 March). A new opportunity has arisen for Kammer – he will head the semiconductor manufacturer ams Osram in the future.
According to an ams press release, the long-time CEO Alexander Everke will leave the company and be replaced by Aldo Kamper. Kamper himself is CEO of the cable tree manufacturer Leoni AG – for the time being, as he has surprisingly handed in his resignation there.
Leoni’s supervisory board has approved the resignation and expressed its regret. “Kamper took over Leoni AG in a difficult situation and led it through extremely challenging times. Brought in to manage the planned growth, he proved himself as a crisis manager. I wish him every success in his new role and all the best personally,” said Klaus Rinnerberger, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
The supervisory board will immediately start talks to arrange the succession. Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) Hans-Joachim Ziems, who was appointed on 9 January 2023, continues to lead the refinancing negotiations.
Kamper had taken over as Leoni’s CEO in September 2018. “From the beginning, it was anything but easy “, says Kamper. Leoni had to deal with a severe financial crisis during this time. Kamper’s term of office also saw the beginning of the Russian war against Ukraine – with the consequence of massive delivery failures as a result of bombed production facilities. Although Leoni was able to partially resume production in Ukraine after a short time, the company is likely to have suffered significant financial damage in the end.
One of the measures planned to bring the company with a sales volume (2021) of some €5,2 bn and more than 100.000 employees back into calm waters was the sale of the division dedicated to the production of vehicle cable harnesses. However, this sale fell through at the end of last year. “I would have liked to have completed the restructuring of this promising company as CEO,” Kamper said. But apparently a more interesting prospect has now opened up for the still-CEO. Kamper hinted at this, without, however, going into more detail about his plans. “The challenge I have been offered is the logical continuation of my professional career. I couldn’t say no,” the company boss said.
With Kamper, ams Osram gets a seasoned LED tech manager
What an attractive opportunity this was, was soon to be discovered. Kamper moves in the same position to ams Osram, a specialist company for solutions in the field of LED lighting and sensors. Here supervisory board has already announced Kamper’s appointment as Chairman of the Management Board and CEO.

Dutch-born Kamper will continue and further develop the strategic focus of ams Osram, the company announced. The candidate has already professional experience with LED technology: He promoted early stages of the development of microLED technology at Osram. According to a company release, he “will drive the industrialization of this technology to benefit customers, shareholders and employees.”
His predecessor Alexander Everke will support the transfer of his responsibilities and remain in an advisory role to the company until year-end 2023. Further details of the handover, which is expected to be implemented during spring 2023, are still in discussion. The reasons for the termination of his contract and his future plans were not disclosed.
