LG Innotek files patent suit against Evergreat
The electric parts manufacturing subsidiary of LG Electronics said it filed the lawsuit with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, Wednesday, to protect its UV LED technology.
LG Innotek asked the courts to ban Evergreat from selling its UV nail dryers and order the U.S. firm to compensate the Korean company for damages.
This is the first time LG Innotek has filed a patent lawsuit regarding its UV LED products. Evergreat makes and sells UV nail dryers and is well known for its “MelodySusie” brand. Its headquarters are in California.
UV dryers are used to dry nails quickly after applying polish to fingernails and toenails. They utilize the characteristics of ultraviolet rays that chemically react with certain materials. UV LEDs, due to their excellent performance and safety, are widely used as a light source.
The lawsuit came after LG Innotek sent warning letters to Evergreat in January, asking it to stop unauthorized use of the patents. But Evergreat did not respond, according to LG Innotek. LG Innotek said it intends to strengthen enforcement of its UV LED patents and strictly deal with unauthorized use of the technologies to protect its intellectual property rights.
LG Innotek has introduced high-quality UV LEDs of various wavelengths for a variety of applications and leads the market.
