Lighting Technology: New trade fair aims at tech audience

The concept of Lighting Technology is entirely focused on lighting components including light sources, power supplies, cooling and lighting controls, says Udo Weller, general manager of the new trade fair. “Lighting designers so far have to visit several exhibitions to get the information they need – electronica for LEDs and power supplies, Embedded World for electronic controls, and even more specialized events for materials. At Lighting Technology, they will find everything that is relevant for them at one place.” In contrast to LPS and Light & Building, the two largest exhibitions in this market, Lighting Technology plans to focus on an intensive contact between technology-oriented visitors and exhibitors. Despite this priority, the event also includes a number of workshops and presentation opportunities.

The event will take place in a city relatively far off the beaten paths of technology trade fair exhibitors and visitors: It is the city of Essen in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, a former capital of coal and steel industry. Why Essen? “Many German lighting companies are based in the former Ruhr industrial area”, explains Weller. “We think that about 50% of our visitors and exhibiting companies are based within a distance of 50 to 100 kilometers from Essen.” The other 50% are expected to come from all over Germany and likewise from abroad – The Netherlands, Belgium, France and other European countries.

The fair will take place from October 10 to October 12. For the start, the organizer expects some 1500 visitors and at least 100 exhibiting firms.
