Location services accuracy increased 3X with Bluetooth 5.1 direction finding
The new direction-finding feature added in version 5.1 allows devices to determine the direction of a Bluetooth signal by using multiple techniques, including angle-of-arrival (AoA) and angle-of-departure (AoD). Silicon Labs’ implementation of the feature enables signal direction detection within 5 degrees. Until now, Bluetooth asset tracking and indoor positioning solutions normally have a location accuracy within 3-4 meters. Silicon Labs Bluetooth 5.1 solution improves location accuracy down to under one meter.
Silicon Labs’ direction finding software, including support for AoA, is available through the Silicon Labs Simplicity Studio development kit.
