The STM32WLE5 range integrates ST’s STM32L4 ultra-low-power MCU technology with Semtech’s SX126x sub-GHz radio IP. The single-silicon-die integration saves on BOM costs and simplifies product design. Long-term availability is assured through ST’s rolling 10-year longevity commitment for industrial products.

The low power consumption and small footprint of STM32WLE5 provides the basis for energy efficient, compact and lightweight IoT devices. The new 7mm x 7mm QFN48 package option allows the range to be used in simplified two-layer board designs.

The LoRa-enabled SoC supports multiple RF-modulation schemes including LoRa spread-spectrum modulation, and the (G)FSK, (G)MSK, and BPSK modulation that are used by various sub-GHz long-range protocols. This support provides the flexibility to apply a variety of protocol stacks.

ST has created the integrated RF stage for use in global markets. The RF stage was created to improve performance and ease manufacture. Its features include dual low-power (14dBm) and high-power (22dBm) transmitter modes with highly linear performance from 150MHz to 960MHz. This wide spectrum spans the sub-1GHz unlicensed frequency range to ensure technical compatibility with RF regulations in all global markets. -148dBm sensitivity helps to maximize RF range. A single crystal is all that is required to synchronize the high-speed external (HSE) clock and the radio, delivering a further saving in BOM.

The new QFN48 package expands the STM32WLE5 portfolio, which also features devices in 5mm x 5mm BGA73 packaging. There are three Flash-memory density options for each package – 64KB, 128KB, or 256KB. All devices offer a high proportion of user-assignable GPIOs. All have ST’s ultra-low-power MCU technologies, including dynamic voltage scaling and proprietary adaptive real-time ART Accelerator that allows zero-wait execution from Flash.
