MicroZed supports multiple use models for exploration, prototyping and System-on-Module (SOM) use,  allowing designers to start with a single platform and grow with it as they progress in their SoC development and learning process.
Designers interested in basic SoC hardware or software exploration, or just learning about Zynq, can use MicroZed as a low-cost, easy-to-use stand-alone evaluation board. Design teams looking for a fast prototyping solution can combine MicroZed with one of many off-the-shelf carrier cards to prototype their system. Finally, MicroZed can be integrated into an end-user SoC system to be used as an SOM, fully supported by Avnet’s customization services.
Target applications for MicroZed include general Zynq-7000 All Programmable SoC evaluation and prototyping, embedded SOM applications, embedded vision, test and measurement, motor control, and software-defined radio.
“With MicroZed, design teams have the option of doing design exploration and prototyping on the exact board that they can use in their product as an SOM, which can offer significant time-to-market and cost advantages,” said Jim Beneke, vice president of global technical marketing for Avnet Electronics Marketing. “At less than half the cost of other available Zynq development kits, MicroZed is the logical choice for the Zynq-based engineering community.”
“With the new MicroZed, Avnet is offering an excellent development platform for engineers who are looking to adopt the Zynq-7000 SoC and accelerate their time to market,” said Barrie Mullins, worldwide director of business development for Xilinx. “It offers users a great way to not only learn the Zynq tool flow, but to leverage their work for faster product development.”
MicroZed features the Zynq-7000 XC7Z010-1CLG400C All Programmable SoC, 1 GB of DDR3 SDRAM, 128 Mb of QSPI Flash, Micro SD card interface, 10/100/1000 Ethernet and USB 2.0. The user I/O is via dual board-to-board connectors with 50 I/O lines per connector that are configurable as up to 48 LVDS pairs or 100 single-ended I/O. A 2×6 Digilent Pmod compatible interface provides 8 PS MIO connections, a Xilinx PC4 JTAG configuration port and PS JTAG pins accessible via Pmod.
The standard MicroZed evaluation kit contains a MicroZed board, a micro USB cable, a 4 GB μSD card, a Xilinx Vivado Design Suite: WebPACK Edition license with Logic Analyzer, and a getting started card.
MicroZed is available immediately from Avnet at a price of $199.
