
Low-drift Hall sensor for safety-critical automotive applications
The sensor features an ambient operating temperature of up to 160℃ and combines high linearity and excellent thermal stability, with low offset and sensitivity drift. Developed as a Safety Element Out of Context (SEooC), the MLX91377 complies with ISO 26262 and is qualified to AEC Q-100 Grade 0. The device supports ASIL-C in digital (SENT or SPC) mode and ASIL-B in analogue mode. MLX91377 is able to detect internal failures and then enter a safe state to stop unintended vehicle behaviour. The dual die TSSOP-16 package expands this safety feature by providing two fully redundant dies to support safety critical applications such as steering and braking systems.
The device has a programmable measurement range and features multi-point calibration to provide design flexibility. A range of output protocols is available to allow a single IC to be used in multiple applications. Short PWM Code (SPC) protocol allows measurements to be taken and transmitted upon detection of a trigger pulse. Up to four MLX91377 sensors can be synchronized up to 2 kHz, for simultaneous magnetic measurements with deterministic latency to ensure high accuracy. In addition, the low-noise and high refresh rate allow high control-loop speeds enabling systems to deliver fast response times with minimal filtering.
