Low power MCU with integrated LCD cuts system cost of consumer medical devices
Based on TI’s MSP430 ultra-low power MCU core, the AFE4110 provides 16-bit processing power, built-in LCD driver, low power and low cost while operating on a single 1.5-V battery. It also has 16kB ROM, 512B RAM, a 4- x 12-segment LCD driver with charge pump, a high-accuracy oscillator, and additional features designed for digital thermometers, pedometers, thermostats and portable single alkaline battery devices.
Operating on a 1.5-V supply, the AFE4110 draws a low active current of 50 µA/MHz and sleep mode current of less than 0.3 µA and the highly accurate 0.3% oscillator eliminates the need for an external crystal.
The AFE4110 is available now in a 2.7mm x 1.1mm die and is priced at $0.80 in quantities of 1,000.
Designers can immediately take advantage of the AFE4110 demonstration module available for digital thermometers. It is priced at $75.
