The estimates cover LTE cellular modem ICs, LTE circuits within application processors and a report from Forward Concepts also covers LTE RF transceivers and power amplifiers.

In 2013 smartphones represented 73 percent of the LTE baseband market while tablets reached 16 percent. "We expect tablets and hybrid notebooks to drive standalone LTE modem penetration rates in 2014 while integrated comms-processors continue to lead in revenues." said Carter L. Horney, the author of the report. The report forecasts that carrier aggregation by LTE operators will drive the replacement of LTE 3G/4g devices in 2014 and 2015 as users seek more bandwidth and higher data rates to watch video.

The report provides forecasts for global LTE-related chip revenue and units through to 2018. The report is provided in PDF format and is priced at $3,750. For a description and detailed table of contents, please click here.
