Luminous motorcycle clothing for more safety on the road
In darkness or poor visibility, passive protection in road traffic, such as reflector strips in clothing, is usually inadequate. Jackets with integrated lighting, in contrast, do not require incident light from car headlights or street lamps, but offer active protection. The Osram light modules, developed for jackets and vests from the manufacturer Held, can be switched on by connecting a power bench before riding a motorcycle.
The light strips provide up to seven hours of active lighting in continuous operation (with a 4,000 mAh battery), implemented on the front of the garments by light modules with white LEDs, on the back by red LEDs. The light modules can be independently integrated into a fabric tube in the garments in just a few steps. The battery can easily be charged via the USB connection.
“The integration of textile lighting in motorcycle clothing offers a completely new approach to increasing road safety. Together with Held, we were able to develop an effective solution specifically for motorcycle clothing,” says Stefan Hofmann, head of Smart Textile Illumination at Osram. Held has two motorcycle jackets and a vest in its range that can be retrofitted easily and independently with active lighting modules from Osram.
