Magna’s 3D Surround View system is a camera system that supports the driver with 360-degree all-round vision when parking or manoeuvring at low speed. The driver can adjust his view of the environment via a user-friendly interface, whereby an object detection system reports obstacles on his way. The system offers the driver a realistic 360 panoramic view of his environment – a significant improvement over the bird’s eye view of existing parking assistants. Integrated 3D Surround View safety features enable automakers to provide more vehicle users with more innovative, safer vehicles and thus contribute to greater road safety.

The pre-integrated system is a cost-efficient option for car manufacturers as it minimizes development times and costs. Magna uses Renesas’ R-Car V3M SoC (System-on-Chip), optimized for intelligent camera and surround view systems.

According to Renesas, several car manufacturers have already expressed interest in this technology, for example a European car manufacturer that will be the first to integrate the 3D Surround View system in a vehicle. However, the semiconductor manufacturer did not disclose which manufacturer it is.
