Taiwanese chip maker Mediatek has joined the Audio Foundry for automotive audio applications.

Headquartered in Bridgend, Wales, UK, the Audio Foundry provides state-of-the-art makerspaces staffed by expert engineers, offering a platform for OEMs, component manufacturers, and technology providers for acoustic design and system layout. This SUV-sized development sandbox uses modular panels and complete networking for seamless and highly adaptable speaker placement, and runs the leading software frameworks with robust onboard processing and centre console design interface access.

The group, founded in 2023, includes Analog Devices, Dirac, DSP Concepts, Polestar and Tymphany Acoustic Technology and now adds Mediatek and Japanses audio specialist Denon, part of the Masimo group.

“With our stronghold in AI-powered in-cabin experiences made possible through the MediaTek Dimensity Auto Cockpit chipsets, we are looking to bridge the gap between next-generation infotainment systems and audio-visual solutions in order to deliver truly unique experiences,” said Mike Chang, Corporate Vice President of MediaTek. “Working with Audio Foundry enables us to navigate the complexity of systems found in future vehicles while building a more solid ecosystem of products and experiences for users.”

“Differentiation comes down to how the OEM delivers their brand experience to the customer and that’s where Audio Foundry can help. As audio becomes more central in customer experience today, the motivation for us all at Audio Foundry is to work on innovation and collaborative projects that make the cut and can be deployed in future vehicle platforms. MediaTek joining today adds to the ecosystem of members that will help deliver innovative concepts,” says Matt Marchese, Automotive Business Unit Leader at Tymphany.

Denon has also joined the group having shown a Tesla Model Y demo vehicle with 3D height-channel sound staging, providing a more immersive audio environment. Denon worked closely with key Audio Foundry members Dirac, Treves and Tymphany on the concept system.

“Creating unforgettable audio experiences starts with how we deliver sound to the customer,” said Marchese. “Denon brings a legacy of unparalleled sound quality to Audio Foundry, and their involvement will be instrumental as we push the boundaries of what’s possible in in-cabin audio. Together, we aim to create solutions that OEMs can deploy in vehicles of tomorrow.”
