Coresonic has been working on its configurable Single Instruction Multiple Tasks (SIMT) DSP architecture for several years and has previously touted it as being suitable for addressing multiple basebands including WiMAX, DVB-T/H, WLAN 802.11a/b/g, GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Bluetooth and EDR.

In a statement Coresonic (Stockholm, Sweden) said that MediaTek (Hsinchu, Taiwan) agreed that the SIMT DSP architecture can reduce the complexity of wireless systems offering a smaller footprint and higher degree of scalability than other approaches.

"As a fast growing market leader, MediaTek is an important partner for Coresonic and we deliver our full architecture for their product development," said Johan Lodenius, CEO of Coresonic, in the statement. "We look forward to continue to deepen our relationship and work closely with MediaTek to enable chipsets that have a distinct edge over their competition."

Coresonic was formed in 2004 by Professor Dake Liu, Eric Tell, Anders Nilsson and Professor Christer Svensson. Coresonic is headquartered in Sweden with offices in Linkoping, Stockholm and Beijing.
