Melexis is to double its test capacity in Kuching, Malaysia, with a new building and €70 million investment in the next five years.

The expansion will see the new building used for probing, shipping, storage and offices, doubling the current production capacity in Kuching by the end of 2024.

The expansion is next door to the wafer processing facility of X-Fab, one of Melexis’ key wafer suppliers, which will lower the logistics cost.

The goal of the project is to increase the testing capacity for the company, headquartered in Belgium. With the demand for semiconductors predicted to double in the next decade, the new building will have room for 90 new semiconductor prober locations used to test mixed signal chips and the Triaxis magnetic position sensors.

Two of the three floors of the 4500 square meter building will be occupied by probing equipment. The third floor will be used as office space with a capacity of up to 200 desks.

Melexis Malaysia, which was established in 2015, currently employs around 20 people.
