Melexis to grow manufacturing in Europe
The company said it is going to spend in Corbeil-Essonnes, France and Sofia, Bulgaria and plans to spend €17 million (about $21 million) in 2018. The workforce is expected to grow from 425 to around 575 by the end of 2018, with a further 160 people expected by the end of 2022.
In Sofia, as well as doubling manufacturing space Melexis will extend R&D and warehousing. In parallel, Melexis is also investing in a wafer-probing site in Corbeil-Essonnes, France.
Melexis is projecting a €60 million investment in production equipment over five years, and some 30 positions will be recruited for in the first instance. The Corbeil-Essonnes site will begin operations during the second quarter of this year.
For the full 2017 year Melexis’ sales were €511.7 million (about $625 million), an increase of 12 percent compared to the previous year. The net income was €111.0 million (about $136 million), and increase of 15 percent on the profit in 2016.
