Fact.MR states the MEMS sensor market was worth US$28 billion and 10 percent growth in 2020, will take the annual market above $30 billion.

STMicroelectronics is Fact.MR’s revenue leader in MEMS sensors with about a 19 percent market share due to its breadth of its product offering. Fact.MR ranks Knowles Corp. second with 15 percent market share by virtue of its offering of MEMS microphones. TDK subsidiary InvenSense is ranked third and leads in the consumer motion sensing area. Other prominent competitors include Robert Bosch, Goertek Inc., AAC Technologies and foundry supplier Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd.

Fact.MR’s ranking differs significantly from that given by Yole Developpement for 2018 when Yole had Broadcom and Bosch as market leaders with STMicroelectronics as third-ranked player (see Broadcom, Bosch increase lead in 2018 MEMS vendor ranking).

Smart equipment and human-machine interfaces are driving adoption of MEMS sensors in connected automobiles, smart wearable devices and smart homes. Unit shipments are on a dramatic rise but with a corresponding decrease in average selling prices (ASPs).

Medical and biotechnical are also expected to adopt MEMS sensors rapidly helping  the global MEMS sensor market to sustain a compound annual growth rate of 9 percent over the long term.

The Asia Pacific (APAC) region held 35 percent market share for MEMS in 2018 and is set to increase share going forward due to the region’s role in consumer electronics production. The North America region represented 20 percent of the market in 2018.

This information and more is discussed in a MEMS sensor market forecast, trend analysis & competition tracking report available from Fact.MR.
