The European MEMS Summit is due to take place Sept. 17 and 18 in Milan, Italy, and will include both a conference and exhibition. More than 20 keynote and invited speakers from across the supply chain are scheduled to present including participation by fabbed and fabless MEMS component companies, foundries, packaging, equipment and materials companies.
A steering committee has been formed composed of executives from companies including ASE, Bosch Sensortec, CEA-Leti, EV Group, Fraunhofer ENAS, Fraunhofer IZM, Freescale Semiconductor, IHS, Okmetic, Sencio, SPTS, STMicroelectronics, Suss Microtec, X-Fab and Yole Developpement.
Industry issues to be discussed at the conference will include: novel technologies; market drivers for MEMS applications and technology; opportunities arising from IoT and sensor-centric applications; challenges for the supply chain; standardization as a driver for cost reduction; and trends towards fabless and foundry business models. The conference will also discuss the application of MEMS in different market sectors including: consumer, automotive, industrial, healthcare, wearable equipment and the Internet of Things.
"Bosch highly welcomes this new SEMI event in Europe since European manufacturers play a leading role in this industry," said Stefan Finkbeiner, CEO of Bosch Sensortec, in a statement issued by SEMI. In the same statement Benedetto Vigna, general manager of the Analog, MEMS and Sensors group at STMicroelectronics, said: "With a significant part of MEMS success centered near Milan, the city offers the perfect backdrop for this event highlighting the technology’s magnificence and exceptional value."
Applications of MEMS in different segments including consumer, automotive, industrial, healthcare, and wearable will be discussed. IoT, the sensor-centric phenomenon, will present significant opportunities for MEMS
