The software works with Atmel’s "Xplain Pro" development boards for microcontrollers. It simplifies the complexity of magnetic sensor integration and is a useful addition for the creation of internet of things applications, Memsic said in a statement.
The eCompass is being made available through the Atmel Gallery, which is an online marketplace for software extensions and tools
The Electronic Compass extension provides a tilt-compensated electronic compass with calibration that supports recently introduced MMC3416xPJ low-power magnetometer in a 1.6mm by 1.6mm by 0.6mm package.
Integrating magnetic sensors can be complex to derive a tilt-compensated heading and this is addressed in the eCompass library. The MMC3416xPJ provides a dynamic range of 16-gauss, which simplifies design by allowing more placement options on the board.
