Mentor emulation platform receives safety certificate
The safety certification de facto expands Mentor’s product portfolio in the market of development tools for safety-critical devices, because greatly facilitates the approval process for functions that are affected by the ISO 26262 standard. If the safety certification would not be available, developers would have to submit each product to certification (as long as it is safety-relevant).
“The demand for automated driving and advanced ADAS systems is changing the global automotive industry. As a result, the world’s leading automakers and their suppliers increasingly need pre-qualified design automation technologies and documentation to shorten time-to-market and ensure optimal cost efficiency,” explained Eric Selosse, vice president and general manager of the Mentor Emulation Division. Mentor’s Mentor Safe ISO 26262 Qualification Program meets this growing demand by providing platforms and solutions that optimize and simplify the development, design and manufacture of automotive ICs.
The Software Tool Qualification Report provided by Mentor along with the emulation platform contains documentation including application examples. It certifies that a software tool is suitable for all activities or tasks at any Tool Confidence Level (TCL) required by ISO 26262. SGS TÜV Saar certified the following elements of Mentor’s Veloce Strato emulation platform:
The Veloce Strato OS enables verification of system level, RTL and GL hardware descriptions with a variety of advanced technologies and methods. The user can manage the entire verification process, measure metrics on design progress and use advanced stimuli to quickly achieve coverage goals. Veloce Strato OS allows users to compile and simulate synthesizable hardware models written in VHDL, Verilog and SV as well as comprehensive non-synthesizable testbench environment models written in VHDL, Verilog, SV, C, C ++ and SystemC.
The Veloce Fault App allows users to insert errors into a design to mimic random environmental events that can occur and lead to faulty circuit operation. The application allows users to test and evaluate the vulnerability of their designs with regard to a failure of their security system and to take appropriate design precautions.
The Veloce Coverage App allows emulation users to use assertion, functional and code coverage functions to collect statistics during an emulation run.
The Veloce DFT App accelerates the design-for-test verification for complete validation of test vectors and DFT logic before tape out. This increases reliability, reduces risks and speeds up chip development.
The Veloce Strato platform the third generation of Mentor’s data-center class emulation platforms. According to Mentor, the Veloce platform is also the only such software toolset available at the market that is completely scalable. Mentor claims that this platform has the highest number of applications, the highest throughput and the shortest time-to-visibility.
