Mercedes E-Class gets software for virtual conferences
In the era of hybrid working, the car will also be integrated into the working world of the future. Virtual meetings can thus also be held behind the wheel.
In this context, Mercedes is taking another step in its strategy to integrate the car as a full participant in the electronic communication and data world of its users. While Mercedes recently entered into a collaboration with Google in the field of navigation, the company has now announced a cooperation with Cisco.
According to this, users of Mercedes’ E-Class (which is mainly used as a business vehicle) will in future be able to hold virtual meetings with business partners or customers from their car. The functionality of the Webex software in the car supports video meetings and shared access to content. In addition, there is automatic AI-supported transcription. However, the full range of functions is only available when the vehicle is parked. While driving, only audio conferences are possible.
The interior of the 2024 new Mercedes-Benz E Class was previewed on February 22, 2023. The new vehicle will be equipped with Wi-Fi and cellular data connection, among many other things. Using either connection, drivers can download the Webex App from the Mercedes Benz Car App Store to appear directly on the touchscreen of the vehicle’s infotainment system, eliminating the dependency on phone. This offering will be available globally in the new Mercedes-Benz E Class vehicles.
In a news release, Cisco added that the partnership with Mercedes-Benz is part of Webex for Automobiles, including Webex Meetings for Apple CarPlay. A similar collaboration has Cisco in place with Ford Motor Company.
